September 4th 1976, all eyes were on Talence. The reason for this was that Guy Drut, the newly-crowned 110m hurdle French gold medallist at the Montreal Olympics, decided – to the general amazement and delight of the media, spectators and television viewers – to participate in a major international combined events meeting in Talence.
And so the extraordinary Talence meeting, later to become DECASTAR, was born!
For forty years now, the greatest names in heptathlon and decathlon have been writing the fabulous pages of the meeting’s history.
With so many wide-ranging exploits, tales of sporting revenge after Olympics and World Championships, and records broken, the meeting has become an unmissable event in the sporting calendar for the athletes and, in the opinion of many, it remains their favourite meeting of the year – a consequence of the warm welcome, and of the passion and enthusiasm of the spectators packed into the stands.
As the years have passed, DECASTAR has also become a great tale of human endeavour. Partners, sponsors, media, the public, volunteers; everyone has joined together after the summer holidays to encourage the athletes who have come to finish their busy sporting seasons.
So, in order to thank everyone involved, for their support and their fidelity, the organizers have decided to celebrate in style, in acknowledgement of these 40 years
So join us in great numbers for the celebrations, the 17th and 18th September2016, so that we can enjoy together a great sporting moment, full of surprises, in the legendary convivial atmosphere of Talence!
